SAMAWATI HOUSE
MSAMBWENI BEACH, KENYA

This charming Lamu Arab style house which we call Samawati overlooks the Indian Ocean at Msambweni, 56 kms south of Mombasa.

It is ideally situated not only for a beach holiday with safe swimming and goggling, but also for visits to the Shimba Hills National Park, the Kisite Island Marine Park, Wasini Island, the Pemba Channel Fishing Club at Shimoni, Funzi Lagoon and other fascinating areas nearby.

BEACH HOUSE IN KENYA

Chelsoon is an elevated 9 acre property with 200m of beach front.

Samawati is the Swahili word for 'A Heavenly Place'. It is a beautifully appointed double storey villa on one of the last unspoilt beaches on Kenya's Indian Ocean coastline.

All furniture and fittings are hand carved in Swahili/Arab style. Doors and windows are also carved, and left open at night so that you awake to a fabulous coastal sunrise.

The pool is a recent addition to this beautiful property. It is designed in a semi-horseshoe shape with a 12m infinity edge, situated on the lip of a gentle cliff below which is a giant Baobab tree amongst indigenous shoreline vegetation. This area is not only home to a myriad of tropical birds but also home to our troop of resident Sykes monkeys who provide amusing entertainment, especially in the afternoon. At the shallow end of the pool, and much enjoyed by children, there is an artifical waterfall cascading down a series of little cataracts bordered by indigenous plants – all adding to the cool and refreshing ambience.

Samawati House is fully staffed with cook, house servant, gardener and night watchman. We have mains electricity and plenty of sweet water from our new well. The garden is well kept with many indigenous palms and trees.

Samawati House is let on a self-catering basis. Give your provisions to our cook and he will create delicious meals which feature fresh fish and seafood bought from fishermen on the beach.
